Women's Soccer Falls to Texas Tech 3-2 in Championship

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior midfielder Amy Rutstein scored two goals including the game winner with 3:02 remaining to lift Texas Tech to a 3-2 victory over Maryland in the championship game of the Maryland/Puma Invitational AT Ludwig Field this afternoon. Rutstein had two goals while junior forward Kristy Frantz had one goal and two assists for the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech improves to 2-1-0 while Maryland is now 1-3-0.
Rutstein scored the game winner at the 86:58 mark. She took a pass from Frantz and beat Terp goalie Ali Wolff. Rutstein gave the Red Raiders the victory only 27 seconds after Maryland senior forward Keri Sarver had tied the game at 2-2.
Earlier, the Red Raiders scored two goals within 1:11 during the early part of the second half. Frantz scored an unassisted goal at the 50:05 mark and Rutstein followed with her first goal of the day at the 51:16 mark. Frantz and senior forward Jennifer Benat were credited with assists on Rutstein's first goal.
Sarver, who scored two goals on the day, led Maryland. She opened the scoring at the 1:29 mark and tied the game at two at the 86:31 mark. She now has three goals on the season and 113 total career points. Her 113 total career points ties her for 10th all-time in Atlantic Coast Conference history with Shannon Higgins, formerly of North Carolina.
Maryland plays host to Duke Friday night at 7:00 at Ludwig Field.
