"Stevie has been waiting for this August for quite some time. Our team missed her presence severely last year - she is a ball-winning, skillful central midfielder. The only plus to Stevie missing Fall `05 is that we have her for three more years...which isn't so bad."

On Dunning: An exceptional athlete and competitor ... very good technically ... outstanding in the air and is a threat on crosses and corner kicks ... has a solid understanding of the game ... fully recovered from a 2005 ankle injury and is expected to be a major contributor this season.

As a sophomore (2005): Missed the entire season after suffering an ankle injury during the summer while playing with her club team ...

As a freshman (2004): Played in 18 matches after missing the first two due to injury ... started 14 games ... made first career start in 2-1 (2ot) loss at North Carolina (9/25) ... tallied her first career assist by setting up Kimmy Francis' game-winning goal in 1-0 shutout of Clemson (10/2) ... had the Terps' best scoring chance against No. 6 Virginia with her header near the end of the first half just clearing the crossbar ...assisted Kimmy Francis' first goal, along with Simone Dekker, in the 3-1 win at Navy (10/19) ... two shots in 1-0 overtime win vs. No. 10 Duke (10/23) ... one shot in 6-0 loss at No. 3 Penn State ... career-high four shots in 0-0 tie with NC State in the first round of the ACC Tournament (10/31) ... two shots in 3-0 shutout of Loyola (Md.) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (11/12).

Before Maryland: An NSCAA All-American at Carmel High School in Indiana ... a member of the Indiana State Olympic Development Program since 1998 and Region II team for the past three years ... played for the Region II ODP Championship team in 2001 and 2002, captaining the `02 squad ... led high school to Indiana State championship four years in a row (2000-03) ... named to the Indianapolis Star's North Girls Soccer Honor Team in 2003, scoring 12 goals and adding three assists ... played her club ball with the Carmel Commotion ... 2003 NSCAA Youth Soccer All-American.

Personal: Daughter of Marilyn and Bruce Dunning ... native of Dallas, Texas ... sister of Alex (17) ... father played football at Nebraska and was invited to Atlanta Falcons training camp ... mother was also an All-American softball player ... has gone by "Stevie" since third grade as her mother gave her the nickname as she was a tomboy growing up and her father had a crush on singer Stevie Nicks ... majoring in individual studies.
