Dobbie Named Midfielder of the Year

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Dana Dobbie, who finished her career with the Maryland women's lacrosse team this season, was named the Midfielder of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. The Guelph, Ontario native set NCAA single season and career draw control records in 2008.

Dobbie, who was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy for the second-straight season, led the country in draw controls with 126 which set a new NCAA single-season record as she averaged 6.00 per outing. She led the Atlantic Coast Conference in goals (70), goals per game (3.33), and draw controls. She was also second in points per game (4.00) behind classmate Kelly Kasper. Her goals and goals per game numbers ranked fifth and 15th in the country, respectively.

Dobbie accumulated 334 draw controls in her four years which is also an NCAA record. Her 70 goals this season is the sixth-most ever in a single season at Maryland. She also led the team with 32 caused turnovers and was third with 33 ground balls. She had 15 hat tricks in 21 games and had eight games with eight or more draw controls.

Dobbie was a three-time ACC Player of the Week which led the conference and was named to the ACC Player of the Year for the second-straight season.
