June 6, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's lacrosse associate head coach and former Terrapin standout Jen Adams has been named the head coach at Loyola College, announced June 6. Adams led the Maryland offense which ranked sixth in the country in 2008 with 14.85 goals per game.

"I would like to thank the University of Maryland, Debbie Yow, Randy Eaton, and all the support staff for allowing me to come back and work with such an outstanding athletic program and incredible student-athletes," Adams said. "It's bittersweet because I love Maryland so much, but at this point in my career it is time for me to make a difference at Loyola. It is a very exciting time in my career and something that I am looking forward to taking on."

"It has been awesome to work under Cathy and grow as a coach and a person," Adams continued. "There is no better mentor in the game today and I feel confident moving forward after being under her direction over the past years. Maryland is in great hands with Cathy. They are destined for great success and I wish them the very best of luck. As an alumn, I will continue to follow the program and share in whatever success they may have."

In her two seasons as associate head coach under Cathy Reese, Adams has orchestrated one of the most potent attacks in the nation. This past season the Terps ranked second in the country in total points with 477, the most for a Maryland team since 2001. The red and black found the back of the net 315 times this season which was the third highest total in the country.

In addition to the team accomplishments, a pair of Maryland players was named finalists for the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2008 thanks in part to their offensive numbers. Senior Dana Dobbie scored 70 goals which were the fifth best in the country and the sixth-most ever in a single season at Maryland. She also contributed 14 assists for 84 points.

Senior Kelly Kasper racked up 43 goals and 44 assists to lead the ACC in assists and points. Her 87 points ranked ninth in the nation and her 44 assists ranked fifth. Her assist total was the fifth-most ever in a single season at Maryland.

"I am very excited for Jen because this is a great opportunity for her," Reese said. "I know she will make a real difference in the Loyola program. She has done tremendous things here at Maryland. We hate to lose her here but we wish her the best of luck. She is a good friend and I am excited for her as she takes on this new challenge."

In 2007, the Terps scored 287 goals which had been the most since 2001 prior to this season. Maryland went 34-7 with Adams on the staff the past two seasons.

Adams is the all-time NCAA career leader with 178 assists and 445 points when she was a player for Maryland from 1998-2001. She also holds the Terps' career record with 267 goals which ranks third all-time in the NCAA. She was the first winner of the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2001 and was a part of four national championship teams.
