Women's Lacrosse Continue to Cruise at Home

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Senior two-time All-America midfielder Sascha Newmarch and sophomore midfielder Kristin Sommar each scored three goals this afternoon as the No. 6-ranked Terps defeated the Harvard Crimson, 13-6, this afternoon at a cold and windy Astroturf Field. Newmarch also added two assists
Freshman attack Jen Adams put the Terps up early at the 1:50 mark only to have Harvard senior attack Honor McNaughton tie the game not more than two minutes later. It remained close as both Maryland and Harvard exchanged goals, before Maryland would score four unanswered goals to close out the first half.
The Terps would explode in the second half, scoring six unanswered goals before Harvard would score at the 51 minute mark off an unassisted goal by Alli Harper. The Crimson would answer again with two quick goals at the 53 and 55 minute marks by Claudia Asano and Harper, respectively.
Maryland would close the gap as freshman Megan McNamara scored her first goal of the season at the 55 minute mark. The Crimson would strike one last time with 26 seconds remaining off a goal by Lauren Corkery.
Maryland sophomore goalie Alex Kahoe recorded eight saves in 55 minutes played and sophomore Emily Evans totaled two in five minutes played.
Other multiple goal scorers for Maryland were seniors Noelle Mitchell and Cathy Nelson who each scored two goals apiece.
Maryland improves to 3-2 overall and hosts Dartmouth on Wednesday, March 25 at 3 p.m. Harvard fell to 2-3.
