Maryland Gymnastics Places 23rd in NACGC/W Academic Standings

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) announced the final academic team and individual rankings for the 2006-2007 academic year for the nation's collegiate women's gymnastics teams. Rankings are calculated by determining a weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. Individuals must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5 of higher in an academic year to be named all-academic.

Nine University of Maryland gymnasts received All-Academic honors for the past school year, including three with perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA):

Allison Dama - 3.862 - Letters & Sciences
Morgan Fishbein - 4.0 - Psychology
Alex Gatch - 3.53 - Education
Brandi George - 3.533 - Letters & Sciences
Gretchen Kittelberger - 4.0 - Psychology
Ashley LeVine - 3.525 - Communication
Rachel Martinez - 4.0 - Special Education
Kelsey Nelligan - 3.79 - Kinesiology
Lindsey Willner - 3.88 - Education

As a team, the Terps finished 23rd with a combined GPA of 3.3537.

Southeast Missouri State was named the champion with a team GPA of 3.74. The University of Denver was second with a team GPA of 3.763 followed by Southern Utah State at 3.733.

"My staff and I are tremendously proud of the hard work that all the girls put forward academically last season, said head coach Bob Nelligan. "We have truly established an environment of academic excellence on this team and I am excited to see what next year brings."

With the team GPA of 3.3537, the Terps also won the President's Cup last season.
