Pascual Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America

June 15, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Maryland Gymnast Mandy Pascual (Aiea, Hawaii) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Pascual graduated Cum Laude with a degree in biochemistry in May. She also earned a degree in chemical engineering in May 2005, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

An uneven bars specialist, Pascual shares the school record (9.925) on that event. She has earned first team All-EAGL conference honors twice and has competed at NCAA Regionals three times in her career. She is a five-time EAGL All-Academic team member and four-time NACGC Scholastic All-American. Pascual earned a 2006 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship and plans to attend medical school.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
