Terrapins Travel to Texas Woman's for Quad Meet

The University of Maryland travels to Denton, Texas Sunday to compete in quad meet at Texas Woman's University with University of Denver and Air Force Academy. The meet is set for 2:00 p.m. CT at the Kitty Magee Arena.

Last Time Out
On January 18, the No. 35 Terps (0-2) posted a season-high score, but were unable to defeat West Virginia, 193.050-192.550. Sophomore Brandi George won two individual events, the all-around (38.925) and vault (9.800). Sophomore Allison Dama swung to a 9.800 score and claimed her second uneven bars title of the season.

Scouting the Competition
Texas Woman's University Pioneers
• No. 32 Texas Woman's (0-4) is coming off a loss to Oklahoma last Saturday, 196.450-192.800.

University of Denver Pioneers
• No. 16 Denver (3-1) did not see action last week, because its scheduled meet against Auburn was postponed. In its last meet on January 12, the team toppled Washington, 194.900-190.475.

United States Air Force Academy Falcons
• No. 52 Air Force (0-2) opened the 2008 season last weekend by hosting Centenary College in a pair of dual meets. The team lost to Centenary, 189.275-186.100, on January 18. The Falcons improved their score on January 20, but still lost to Centenary, 190.625-188.400.

George Named EAGL Gymnast of the Week
Sophomore Brandi George picked up where she left off last season by winning the all-around competition in the first two meets of 2008. The 2007 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of Year was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday (January 22). George is also ranked first in the all-around and second on the beam within the EAGL.

Looking Ahead
After the weekend in Texas, Maryland travels to Towson to compete in the thirteenth annual Governor's Cup on February 1. This competition between the states of Maryland and North Carolina features Maryland, Towson, North Carolina and NC State. The state of North Carolina has a 7-5 lead in the series.
