George Named EAGL Gymnast of the Week

Jan. 22, 2008

Maryland sophomore Brandi George (Orlando, Fla.) was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday after earning her second all-around victory of the 2008 season. George is the first Maryland gymnast to receive a weekly honor this season. In 2007, she was the EAGL Rookie of the Year.

In addition to her all-around win (38.925) in a dual meet against West Virginia on January 18, George won the vault event by matching her career-high score of 9.800. Also, she tied for second on beam (9.775) and fourth on floor (9.725).

George is currently ranked first in the all-around and second on the balance beam within the EAGL.

No. 35 Maryland (0-2) returns to action on Sunday, January 27 when it travels to Denton, Texas for a quad meet at Texas Woman's with Denver and Air Force. The meet is set for 2:00 p.m. CT in the Magee Arena.
