The Maryland gymnastics team opened the 2008 season by scoring a 190.800 Friday night against Ohio State. The Buckeyes topped the Terps with a 193.850 total.

The Terps opened the evening on vault, scoring a 47.775. Sophomore Brandi George stuck her landing and earned the team's top score of a 9.725.

Sophomore Allison Dama led the Terrapins in the second rotation, notching a 9.825 on the uneven bars to win the event. The team turned in an event score of 47.825. At the halfway point, Ohio State led Maryland 97.225-95.600.

On balance beam, Maryland was highlighted by George nailing her two signature skills, the George I and George II. She won the event with a 9.825 score. The event total of 48.125 was Maryland's highest of the night.

In the final rotation, Brenner tumbled her way to the team's floor exercise high with a 9.825 score, tying Ohio State's Rebecca Best for first place. The Terrapins only put up five gymnasts; therefore, they were unable to drop their lowest score and totaled a 47.075.

George won the all-around, scoring a 38.675.

The Terps will remain at home for another week and face fellow EAGL member West Virginia on Friday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m.
