COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After a series of successful summer camps, University of Maryland head gymnastics coach Brett Nelligan and the Maryland gymnastics team hosted nearly 100 gymnasts for the annual Winter Workout Camp on Dec. 28.
Nelligan and his coaching staff were joined by former Terrapin head coach Bob Nelligan, who is currently the head coach of the Bermuda National Team.
The camp was open to gymnasts of all skill levels and this year included more than 20 Level 10 gymnasts.
"We had a great day, lots of fun, and a lot of talented young gymnasts came out for the clinic," said Brett Nelligan. "It really gets bigger and better every year."
The camp was designed to teach campers the fundamentals of gymnastics. Rotations of vault, bars, beam, floor, trampoline, strength, dance and flexibility were included.Maryland's camps have been growing in popularity in recent years. Last year 110 gymnasts, including 20 Level 10's, attended the winter workout. This past summer for the first-time ever, the gymnastics program held two summer sessions. The first session, which was held July 29-Aug. 2, was filled three months prior to its start. A second session was added for Aug. 5-9. The summer camp included 35 Level 10 gymnasts.
