Maryland Gymnasts Finish Season at NCAA Regionals

April 9, 2005

Complete Results

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Four Maryland gymnasts competed tonight in the NCAA regionals. The Terps ended the 2005 season with strong performances but did not qualify for the NCAA championship. Only the top two teams advanced and the top two all-around performers (from teams not advancing). Maryland's individual competitors would have to win their event in order to advance to the NCAA championship.

Rachel Martinez finished 11th in the all-around competition, scoring 38.775. Martinez notched a 9.50 on vault (39th), a 9.70 on uneven bars (21st), a 9.750 on balance beam (tied 13th) and a 9.825 on floor exercise (tied 12th).

Mandy Pascual scored a 9.650 on uneven bars (28th). Alex Gatch tied Martinez for 13th place on balance beam, totaling 9.750. Ginny Scott scored a 9.80 (tied 16th) on floor exercise.

The NCAA regional experience should help the Maryland squad next season as they return all of these qualifiers.
