The Maryland gymnastics team was defeated by George Washington and Towson in a tri-meet at the Towson Center Arena on Friday. Towson won with a 194.500 score followed by George Washington scoring a 193.750. Maryland tallied a 193.150.
After two falls on the balance beam, Maryland was behind both George Washington and Towson after the first rotation. Towson led with a 48.750, George Washington was close with a 48.700 and Maryland scored a 48.025. The Terps were led by Rachel Colon scoring a 9.775 followed by Talia Tossone's 9.725.
On the floor exercise, Brandi George was the Terps' top scorer, notching a 9.850. Michele Brenner turned in the second highest score with a 9.750. At the halfway point Maryland continued to trail with a 96.550 total. Towson kept its lead with a 97.525 score followed by George Washington's 96.950.
Maryland struggled slightly on vault and only three gymnasts competed vaults with a 10.0 start value. Colon, who competed vault only for the second time this season, led the Terrapins with a 9.750 score. Both Angela Ferg and Gretchen Kittelberger tallied 9.60 scores. Placement did not change after the third event and Maryland remained in third position.
Finishing the meet on the uneven bars, Maryland was solid until suffering a fall from their final competitor, Allison Dama. Leading the Terps on three events, Colon scored a season-high 9.825.
The Terps will finish their regular season on the road when they travel to Michigan next Friday for a dual meet with the Wolverines. The meet is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Crisler Arena.
