Senior Megyn Byrnes (Mahopac, N.Y. / Mahopac) finished second in the all-around with a score of 38.475 and a tie for first-place on bars with a season-high and Maryland 1998 team-high score of 9.825 as the women's gymnastics team placed second at the Bubble Invitational at N.C. State. Byrnes led a Maryland team effort which scored a season-high on bars (48.525) and a season-high team score (192.075). Despite its strong outing, Maryland could not overcome a strong No. 24 N.C. State Wolfpack team which, before a home crowd of 3,959, scored a season-high 195.450. Rounding out the field were James Madison (184.900), Radford (184.225) and William & Mary (183.400).

Maryland's teamwork was clearly seen in the bars segment of the meet as four of the six gymnasts scored or tied season-highs including Byrnes. Junior Christine Holcombe (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) placed fourth overall with a season-high 9.775 and freshman Karyn Fein (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence) scored a season-high 9.725. Senior Alexis Moran (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville) also performed well as she tied a season-high on with a 9.725.

Freshman Jodi Morgan (East Petersburg, Pa. / Hempfield) also stood out as she placed fourth on vault with a score of 9.675 and also scored a season-high 9.775 on beam.

The meet also marked the return of senior Stacy Breidenbach (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pleasant Valley(Pa.), who had missed the last three meets with a broken left hand. Breidenbach competed on beam and floor and scored a 9.325 and 9.425, respectively.

Maryland falls to 3-6 in the EAGL after losing to conference rival N.C. State, but improves to 17-9 overall. The Terrapins will close out the regular season in College Park on Wed., March 11 at 7 p.m. when they take on the George Washington University Colonials at Ritchie Coliseum. This season Maryland is 1-1 against the Colonials.
