Maryland Wins Quad Meet at Home

The Maryland gymnastics team won its "Terps for a Cure" quad meet this Friday against James Madison, New Hampshire and Temple. The Terrapins' new season-high total score of 194.700 earned them first place, the Wildcats placed second with a 193.525 followed by the Owls with a 191.200. The Dukes finished fourth with a 187.450.

The Terrapins began on vault with their top score turned in by Angela Ferg (9.775) followed by Candice King (9.750).

The team scored consistently between a 9.625-9.775 on the uneven bars. Brandi George notched the Terps' top score, 9.775. Rachel Colon turned in the second highest score with a 9.750.

On balance beam, the first three Terrapins up scored personal season-highs. Gretchen Kittelberger scored a 9.725, Michele Brenner notched a 9.80 and Colon scored 9.850. The event score of 48.925 is a season high.

On the floor exercise, three season-highs were also scored. Talia Tossone notched a 9.725, Brenner scored a 9.80 and Kittelberger earned a 9.825.

On the vault, New Hampshire's Helena Diodati won with a 9.825 score. Diodati tied for first place (9.75) on the uneven bars with George. Colon took first on balance beam with a 9.850. New Hampshire's Fairen Plummer won floor with a 9.850 score.

George won the all-around with a 38.975 score.

The Terps were able to raise over a thousand dollars for breast cancer awareness. They plan on making "Terps for a Cure" an annual meet. Maryland sorority ZTA assisted the team by accepting the donations, thanking the donors and handing out information pamphlets.

The Terps will remain at home next week as they host Penn State on Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Comcast Center Pavilion.
