The Maryland gymnastics team finished third in the 12th annual Governor's Cup hosted at NC State on Friday in Reynolds Coliseum. The Terrapins earned their season-high team total, scoring a 191.925. NC State won and scored a 194.600 followed by North Carolina (194.200). Towson finished fourth with a 191.850.

The Terps began on the uneven bars with a strong lead-off performance by freshman Margaux Meeks (9.650). Senior Rachel Colon turned in the team's top score, 9.725, followed by Brandi George, 9.675. Anchor Allison Dama missed for the first time this season. After nailing the hardest elements in her routine, she stalled out on the high bar before her dismount. The event score was 47.775.

On the balance beam, the team began with a fall from Gretchen Kittelberger. The five remaining competitors all stayed on the beam despite a few minor errors. Freshman Talia Tossone turned in the team's top score of a 9.650.

Floor exercise was a stable event for the Terps. All of the competitors solidly performed their routines. Brandi George's 9.725 score was the top score. The rest of the scores were consistently between a 9.550-9.600.

 

 

The Terps ended the competition by putting together their best vaulting effort of the season. All of the Terrapins earned their season-high scores. Ferg notched the team's top score and tied her season-high with a 9.825.

Individual event winners included a tie on vault with Christina Ghani (Towson) and Christine Nguyen (UNC) scoring a 9.900.On the uneven bars, there was another first place tie; Christine Robella (UNC) and Amanda Jones (NC Stated) notched 9.800. UNC's Nguyen picked up a second event title on the balance beam, scoring a 9.825. North Carolina's Robella won floor with a 9.850. Nguyen won the all-around with a 39.325.

After three consecutive weeks in row on the road, Maryland will host their second home meet this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Comcast Center Pavilion against EAGL member George Washington University.
