Gymnastics Posts Season-High Score

The Maryland gymnastics team posted a season-high score Friday night, but fell to fellow East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) member West Virginia, 193.050-192.550.

Maryland opened the meet on vault, scoring a team total of 48.100. Sophomore Brandi George led the team with a 9.800 score, tying West Virginia freshman Amy Bieski for first place.

For a second week in a row, sophomore Allison Dama won the uneven bars with a 9.800 score. Halfway through the meet, Maryland led West Virginia, 96.475-95.675.

On beam, George notched the Terrapins' top mark with a 9.775, followed by sophomore Talia Tossone scoring a 9.750. Going into the final rotation, the teams were tied 144.375-144.375.

Sophomores led the Terps on the floor. George and Michele Brenner both scored a 9.725.

For a second straight week, George won the all-around with a 38.925. West Virginia's Kiersten Spoerke won the beam with a 9.800 and Bieski won floor with a 9.825.

The Terps will travel to Denton, Texas on Sunday, January 27 for a quad meet slated for 2:00 p.m. at Texas Woman's with Denver and Air Force.
