Terps to Compete at NCAA East Regional

Maryland Athletics on Facebook COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's golf team earned its first trip since 2010 and its fourth all-time to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, the NCAA announced Monday. The Terps will compete in the East Regional at the Blue Course at Penn State Golf Course beginning Thursday, May 10. Three 24-team regionals will be held May 10 through 12 to determine the field for the NCAA Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club hosted by Vanderbilt, May 22 through 25. The top 8 teams in each regional advance to the championship round. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies apply. The Terps last appearance in the regional tournament came in 2010 at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., where they finished 18th with a 928 (316-306-306). Last season, senior Jessica Hollandsworth competed as an individual at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash., and tied for 58th. The Floyd, Va., native carded a 17-over 233 (77-77-79). The Terps completed their regular season at the ACC Championship. Led by freshman Juliet Vongphoumy the Terrapins finished seventh. Vongphoumy tied for 12th with a 12-over 225 (74-77-74) and junior Christine Shimel carded a 14-over 227 (77-74-76) to tie for 17th.
