Meharg Selected Regional Field Hockey Coach of the Year

Dec. 5, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland field hockey coach Missy Meharg has been selected the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Wednesday. She earns the honor for the 11th time in her career.

Maryland's all-time winningest coach, Meharg led the Terrapins to their 13th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the program's 21st national postseason appearance this season. Maryland ended the year ranked third in the nation, but spent most of the season rated No. 2, while opening the year at No. 1 after winning back-to-back national championships in 2005 and 2006. The Terps were 18-3 on the season and 4-1 in the ACC in 2007.

Having completed her 20th season at the Terrapin helm, four of Meharg's Terps were selected All-Americans and seven were named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region team this. Freshman Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) became the first rookie in conference history to garner a player of the year honor when she was selected the ACC's Offensive Player of the Year. She also went on to be a finalist for the Honda Award, presented to the nation's top field hockey player.

In 20 years, Meharg boasts a 345-98-9 record. She entered the season ranked in the top 20 in NCAA field hockey history in winning percentage and total wins.
