Scouting The Terps
The defending national champion Maryland is ranked No. 6 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches poll released Tuesday. The Terrapins are coming off of their eighth national title and a 19-4 overall record last year.
The Terps pushed No. 1 North Carolina to its limit Saturday, but fell 4-3 in overtime. They led 3-2 at halftime, then lost in the 77th minute.
Junior Jill Witmer put the Terps on the board in the 23rd minute to tie it at 1-1. Less than three minutes later, Sarah Sprink scored her first of two off a penalty corner setup from Harriet Tibble and Katie Gerzabek. Sprink struck again off a similar corner setup in the 32nd minute for a 3-2 Terps lead at halftime.
In 7-vs-7 overtime. Witmer cracked a shot two minutes in that hit the post. In the 77th minute, UNC scored for the win.

The Terps will battle eight of the 16 teams that participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. So far, they are 5-3 vs. those teams.
Maryland will play 10 of the teams ranked in the preseason top 25 in 11 regular season games and are 7-4 against them.

Meharg Named ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine Top 20 Recruiter
"ESPNU AND THE MAGAZINE asked an all-star panel a seemingly simple question: Who are the top 20 recruiters in college sports? We spoke with three dozen experts, from Mag college football Insider Bruce Feldman to volleyball legend Karch Kiraly to women's World Cupper Cat Whitehill. Turns out, baseball coaches aren't the only ones pulling roster magic from a hat half-filled with scholarships."
