GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Emma Thomas was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week Tuesday for her play in Maryland's 4-3 overtime victory against Virginia. Thomas shares the honors with Charlotte Verstraten of North Carolina.

The Terrapins remained atop the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll for a second-consecutive week, in large part to Emma Thomas' (High Wycombe, England/Wycombe) play. The senior back dished out a key assist in Saturday's victory over the Cavaliers, helping on the game-tying goal with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. After the Terps pushed the game to overtime, Thomas knocked in her first career goal in the 81st minute of play to wrap up the win.

For Thomas, the weekly honor was also the first of her career. Thomas has made an immediate impact on the Terps since being cleared to play by the NCAA due to transfer rules prior to the team's 4-2 victory over then-No. 1 Wake Forest. Thomas joined the team after transferring from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom.

This marks the third-consecutive week in which a Terrapin has earned the Player of the Week honor from the ACC. Last week, it was sophomore Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) earning the award, while two weeks ago senior Susie Rowe (London, England/Colfe's School) garnered the distinction. Maryland players have earned the distinction four times so far this season.

Maryland is 10-1 on the season and sits atop the ACC standings with a perfect 3-0 record. Seven of the Terrapins' wins have come over teams ranked in the top 20 at the time of the meeting.

Thomas and the Terps will be back in action this weekend as they return home to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex for two games. They will take on No. 9 Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will face Penn at 2 p.m. Sunday.
