The defending national champion Maryland is ranked No. 1 in the preseason Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches poll. The Terrapins are coming off of their eighth national title and a 19-4 overall record last year.
Scouting The Golden Bears
The Golden Bears are ranked No. 16 in the preseason poll and went 16-4 overall last year.

Maryland owns the all-times series over Cal, 8-0, winning the last meeting 8-0 in College Park on Sept. 21, 2009.
Play the Best
Due to being in the toughest conferences in the nation, the Terrapins play one of the strongest schedules in the country.
All six ACC schools are ranked in the top 20 preseason top 25 poll, with three in the top five and four in the top 10. To see the full poll, log on to NFHCA.org.
The Terps will battle eight of the 16 teams that participated in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
Maryland will play 10 of the teams ranked in the preseason top 25 in 11 regular season games.
The 2010 and 2011 NFHCA National Coach of the Year and ACC Coach of the Year, Missy Meharg

Home Sweet Home
Since its opening in 2003, the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has provided the Maryland hockey program a huge home field advantage.
The Terps are 106-11 (.906) all-time at the Complex.
Maryland won 38 straight games at the Complex from Oct.11, 2008 through Oct. 14, 2011. The streak ended with a 5-2 loss to then-No. 1 Old Dominion.
The Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex has played home to 20 of Maryland's NCAA Tournament games, including two Final Fours (2007, 2010). The Terrapins are 19-1 in those games and won the 2010 national title on their home field.

Meharg Named ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine Top 20 Recruiter
Terrapin head coach Missy Meharg was named one of college athletics' top 20 recruiters by ESPNU/ESPN The Magazine in January.
"ESPNU AND THE MAGAZINE asked an all-star panel a seemingly simple question: Who are the top 20 recruiters in college sports? We spoke with three dozen experts, from Mag college football Insider Bruce Feldman to volleyball legend Karch Kiraly to women's World Cupper Cat Whitehill. Turns out, baseball coaches aren't the only ones pulling roster magic from a hat half-filled with scholarships."
