COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games slated for Friday night in Beijing, China, three former field hockey Terrapins are also getting ready for their first Games appearance. Terp fans can watch Lauren Powley, Dina Rizzo and Keli Smith and the U.S. team go for gold on the NBC family of networks. All five USA Field Hockey pool matches and both medal games will be televised by NBC during the network's unprecedented 3,600 hours of Beijing Olympic Games Coverage. The network channels that will televise the field hockey matches include MSNBC, USA and USA HD, and Universal HD. All field hockey games will also be webcast on NBCOlympics.com. The USA Field Hockey Women's Olympic Team opens competition in Beijing against 2007 Pan American Games champion Argentina on Sunday, August 10. The match will be broadcast live on MSNBC and simulcast on Universal HD. The four remaining pool matches against Japan, Germany, New Zealand and Great Britain are scheduled for the USA Network and USA HD. Former Terrapin All-Americans Lauren Powley (Mountaintop, Pa.), Dina Rizzo (Walpole, Mass.) and Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) are competing in their first Olympics. Sara Silvetti (Wapwallopen, Mass.), also a former Maryland All-American, is an alternate on the squad. The U.S. is making its first appearance in the Games since the 1996 Atlanta Games.
