March 8, 2013
The U.S. beat Brazil, 6-0 on Monday. O'Donnell scored the Americans' fifth goal off a penalty corner. It was Witmer's first international cap as a new member of the National Team.
Team USA topped Uruguay 3-0 on Wednesday. The Americans have been battling through heavy humidity and extreme heat conditions while in Rio.
"It is definitely extremely hot and similar to summers on the east coast with humidity and temperatures around 100 degrees on the turf," O'Donnell said. "Coming off our winter season, these temperatures are not what we are accustomed to. Overall I think we are coping pretty well. All the teams here are playing in similar conditions so we are all in the same boat."
On Friday, the U.S. was edged by Scotland in penalty strokes. The Americans scored in the 14th minute, then Scotland tied it in the 48th minute off a penalty stroke. The U.S. fell in strokes, 2-0.
Infante, a member of the Chilean National Team, has helped her team to a 2-1 record in the tournament. She scored two goals in a 6-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago.
Next, Team USA will play Chile at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday and Trinidad & Tobago at 7 a.m. ET Sunday.
As the No. 10 ranked team in the world, the U.S. received an automatic entry into World League Round 2. The top two teams from World League Round 2 will automatically advance to World League Round 3 this summer and become one step closer to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
