Field Hockey Drops Close Game, 2-1
September 23, 1998 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 10 Maryland (6-2) was defeated today by No. 14 Delaware (7-1) 2-1 in Newark. The Terps outshot the host Blue Hens 26-4, but Delaware goalie Kelly Adams made 22 saves to preserve the Delaware victory. The Blue Hens jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Kelly Cawley and Rachel Barger. Sophomore back Sarah Rappolt (West Chester, Pa.) cut the lead to 2-1 late in the second half by scoring her first career goal, but the Blue Hens held on for the win. Maryland's next game is at Wake Forest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
