"Today was a great step in development as we were able to execute different formations and had all 19 players compete. We look forward to opening the ACC slate next week against Boston College," head coach Missy Meharg said.
Seniors Emma Thomas and Nicole Muracco each added a hat trick, while Ameliet Rischen, Katie O'Donnell, Megan Frazer and Janessa Pope all scored one apiece. The Terps had an impressive 14 assists on the day and took 28 shots to the Tigers' six. Five of Maryland's goals came from 10 penalty corner set-ups.
The Terps took the lead early when Thomas scored off a penalty corner just four minutes into the game. Muracco's first goal followed ten minutes later. From there, the Terrapins never looked back.
Towson's Mariah Schuette scored off of a rebounded shot just ten minutes before the halfway point of the game. Towson goalkeepers Jamie Dowling and Whitney Clugston each had three saves on the day.
The Terrapins will begin ACC competition next week when they take on No. 10 Boston College Eagles in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Saturday afternoon. After that match, they will return home to welcome California Monday at 3 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
