Maryland Defeats UMass, 7-0, in Field Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Rachel Hiskins and sophomore Caroline Walter scored two goals each to lead No. 1 ranked Maryland to a 7-0 victory over Massachusetts at Garber Field here this afternoon. Junior All-America Carla Tagliente scored one goal and added one assist to bring her career point total to 93 and move into eighth place all-time on Maryland's career scoring list.
Maryland improved to 4-1 with the victory while UMass fell to 2-2. The Terps are ranked No. 1 in the nation by Sports Illustrated for Women.
Hiskins scored the first goal of the game for the Terps with only 4:43 elapsed in the first half. It was an unassisted goal. She scored Maryland's sixth goal of the game at the 48:12 mark during the second half. Walter scored Maryland's second and third goals of the day. She has now scored a career-high 11 goals this season.
Tagliente assisted on Walters first goal of the game at the 13:15 mark and scored herself at the 43:36 mark to give the Terps a 4-0 advantage. The goal was Tagliente's first of the season and 37th of her career. She is ranked seventh all-time on Maryland's goal scoring list.
Sophomore Ashley Hohnstine, the Terps starter in goal, and Zoe Ehrlich combined for the shutout. The start was Hohnstine's first of the season and she made no saves. Ehrlich was credited with one save.
The Terps outshot the Minutewomen, 28-1, and forced UMass goalie Zowie Tucker to make 14 saves. The Terps also held a 14-0 advantage on penalty corners.
