Competitive Cheer Wins Despite Injuries

Jan. 31, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Competitive Cheer team wins its fourth straight title at the Maryland Cup last Saturday. Despite injuries late in the week that required Coach Lura Fleece to rework parts of the routine and add in new girls, the squad showed off their superior talent.

Jacqueline De los Santos stepped in as one of the team's feature fliers and Mandy Shaw was added to the routine. "I was so proud of how the team came together in the face of a less than ideal situation," Fleece commented.

The tumbling passes were flawless and the girls seemed to find their groove during the dance section. Jenna Rastelli hit key stunts she had struggled with during warm-up.

Be sure to catch the squad next weekend, Feb. 4-6, at the American Masters in Baltimore where they will face off against Salisbury University.
