Pfirman Named ACC Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Tierney Pfirman of the 10th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team was voted ACC Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The forward from Williamsport, Pa. averaged 10.0 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Terrapins, who managed a 2-1 week, highlighted by a conference win over Virginia, 79-55. Against the Cavaliers, in her ACC debut, Pfirman scored 17 points, and added three rebounds and an assist. The native of Williamsport, Pa., followed that up with 11 points and five rebounds in a 50 point win over George Mason to close out the week.
Pfirman and the Terps (6-2, 1-0) will head up Interstate 95 Tuesday to take on Towson at 7 p.m. at the Towson Center in Baltimore. Listen to Tuesday's matchup live online on UMTerps.com for a fee.
Tuesday's game will be the 18th meeting all-time between Maryland and Towson. The Terps have won 10o of the last 11 meetings and the last two straight. They own the all-time record, 12-5. Last year, they won 82-46 in College Park on Nov. 16 behind 26 points from Brene Moseley, 15 from Laurin Mincy and 14 from Alyssa Thomas.
Junior Alyssa Thomas notched the program's second triple-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists to lead No. 9 Maryland to a 90-40 victory over George Mason on Saturday night. She became the first Terrapin to get a triple-double since Marissa Coleman in 2006, which was the first.
After Tuesday's matchup, the Terrapins will take on Delaware (5-2) on Dec. 21 in Newark, Del. The Terps and the Blue Hens will play at 7 p.m. in the Bob Carpenter Center. The game will be broadcast live on AM 1300 in Baltimore and AM 570 in DC, as well as UMTerps.com.
