July 6, 2010
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA has confirmed that the University of Maryland will be hosting the first and second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 22. Maryland was announced as an official host site in October. Comcast Center has played host to first and second round games in 2008 and 2009 and three overall since the building's opening in 2002. Maryland has been one of the most successful host sites each year, setting attendance records in both 2008 and 2009. "We are excited to host the women's tournament again in 2011," Maryland Director of Athletics Deborah A. Yow said Friday. "Our fans have been tremendous in their support of our women's team and with this year's young team and incoming class, 2011 should be another year we make a run for the national championship." The Terrapins are 5-1 in NCAA Tournament games at Comcast Center, winning four in a row to earn trips to the Sweet Sixteen each of the past two seasons in front of home fans. Ticket information will be released this summer. The four regional sites for 2011 are Dayton, Ohio, Spokane, Wash., Dallas, Texas and Philadelphia, Pa.
