BELGRADE, Serbia - University of Maryland center Yemi Oyefuwa, a native of London, will represent Great Britain at the 2009 World University Games, a 16-team Olympic-style event for college-age basketball players, from July 1-12.

Oyefuwa, who will be a sophomore for the Terrapins in 2009-10, has previous international experience suiting up for the Great Britain senior women's team earlier this year versus Croatia along with the U-20 European Championship in 2008. The 6-foot-6 post player appeared in 27 games for Maryland's 31-5 squad a year ago, a team that reached the Elite Eight.

The 2009 World University Games mark the first time that a team from Great Britain has competed in the event. The team is dominated with players who play at U.S. colleges along with three UK-based students.

Great Britain has been drawn in the same group as host Serbia. The two teams will open competition against one another on Wednesday before taking on the U.S. team and France on July 2 and 3, respectively.

The World University Games are held every other year and are organized by the International University Sports Federation.
