Nov. 30, 1997 Women's Basketball Nabs Tournament ChampionshipWORCESTER, MA- The University of Maryland women's basketball team defeated Holy Cross 82-74 in the championship game of the ECAC Holiday Women's Basketball Festival Sunday afternoon. The Terrapins were led to the title by Stephanie Cross who had 47 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists through the end of the tournament. Her performance earned her the Holiday Festival's MVP award. Also honored was Sonia Chase who had 37 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Chase was named to the All-Tournament Team. Maryland jumped out to an early 10-point lead 23-13 in the first half only to have the Crusaders mount an 18-11 run to close within three, 34-31 at the break. In the second half, the Terrapins turned it on to take the lead back and keep it for good. Maryland's Cross finished the game with 26 points and Kalisa Davis followed with 17. The Terps had four players score in the double figures.
