Maryland defeated by Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The Maryland women's basketball team fell to the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers, 67-44, this afternoon at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in its season opening game.

Rutgers jumped out to a 12-0 lead and played tenacious defense in limiting Maryland to 14 field goals on the afternoon. Rutgers led 36-21 at the half and scored the first nine points of the second period.

Sonia Chase (Baltimore, Md.) led the Terps with a game-high 20 points and six assists while freshman Meghan McIntyre (Linwood, NJ) collected a game-high 12 rebounds.

Stephanie Cross scored seven points and became the 16th Terp in school history to record 1,000 career points. The Spencer, NC, native now has 1,004 points.

Maryland next plays on Wednesday, Nov. 19 against Loyola at Cole Field House. Game time is 7:30 pm.
