Head Coach Brenda Frese
"We had a lot of fun tonight and what I'm most pleased about is just the level of toughness I thought we showed against a really, very good Minnesota team. Just punch for punch, blow for blow, it was a very physical game and a game where I thought we did a tremendous job matching it. The most proud I am is of our defense. To be able to hold a team that's been scoring in the 70s to 45 points I just thought collectively we just did a tremendous job possession by possession making them have to work."
On stopping Minnesota's Ashley Ellis-Milan:
"That's a credit to our low-post defense. Lynetta Kizer and Yemi Oyefuwa I thought did a great job. I mean we really talked about how hard she seals and ducks in and even after the catch just making her have to score through us credit defensively. We made her have to take tough shots."
On the balanced scoring:
"That's the kind of un-selfishness we have to have. Collectively it was fun to see us make the extra pass, being patient. I thought at halftime Lynetta hadn't had enough touches but Lynetta did a nice job of just getting rim runs and really helping us in the second half being patient. If we're going to be a great team that's what we have to be able to have, just letting the game come to you and collectively as a group we have so many different scorers that it's going to be hard to defend us."
Sophomore guard Kim Rodgers
On the battle on the boards:
"It was very physical the whole entire game. Those girls were tall, they had big bodies so all this week we practiced boxing out first not just running to the basket and I think it worked for us."
On the transition to being a starter:
"It's been pretty smooth. I don't think it really matters whether you start or whether you come off the bench it's just a matter of whether you're ready to play when you get your chance."
Sophomore forward Lynetta Kizer
On the post defense:
"I think what they're good at is ducking in in the post and we worked on that two straight days in practices watching that ducking and when they catch the ball just playing straight up. I think that my teammates and I did an excellent job of playing them straight up and having them go through us and making tough shots."
On the team's personality:
"We're still young right now but I think where we want to be at is on defense, that's where we really want to hang our hat up and being able to stop other teams."
