Hawkins notched her 12th double-double of the season with 30 points and 12 boards. Thomas added 17 points for the Terrapins, who have won 13 consecutive games against the Tigers. The Terrapins (20-4 overall, 11-2 ACC) clinched their ninth-straight 20-win season.
Nikki Dixon had 13 points for the Tigers (6-18, 2-11), who have lost four consecutive games after beating Virginia Tech, 47-37, on Jan. 31.
Maryland outrebounded Clemson, 48-32, and is averaging plus-15.7 in rebounding margin, which is second in the nation behind Liberty.
Hawkins, who leads the ACC with 19 points per game, scored nine consecutive points, Chloe Pavlech made a 3-pointer and the Terps opened a 26-12 lead with 7:32 left in the first half. Clemson eventually settled down and scored seven consecutive points to end the half, cutting the margin to 33-25 at the break.
The Terrapins began to pull away when Hawkins and Thomas combined for all of the points in a 15-4 run to start the second half. Another jumper by Thomas with 7:46 remaining increased the lead to 61-38. Clemson could not pull within 20 points the rest of the way and the Terps cruised to their 10th victory in the past 11 games.
The victory kept Maryland tied with No. 14 North Carolina for second place in the ACC, two games behind Duke (23-1, 13-0).
Pavlech tied her career-high eight assists and Malina Howard notched a career-high 10 rebounds.
Next, the Terrapins will head to Charlottesville to take on Virginia (15-8, 7-5) Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN2. Maryland beat Virginia, 79-55, in College Park on Dec. 6 behind 20 points each from Hawkins and Thomas and 17 from freshman Tierney Pfirman.
NOTE: Incoming freshman guard Lexie Brown (Suwannee, Ga./North Gwinnett HS) was named a McDonald's All-American Thursday. She will play in the 2013 McDonald's All-American Game on April 3 at Chicago's United Center. Brown is the 13th McDonald's All-American head coach Brenda Frese has recruited to Maryland in her 11 years.
