Cross Earns ACC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honors
GREENSBORO, NC-Maryland's Stephanie Cross and N.C. State's Chasity Melvin were named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Week for games played through Sunday, November 30.
Cross adds the Player of the Week award to a growing list of honors that includes being named MVP of the ECAC Holiday Festival over the weekend after collecting 47 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists through the end of the tournament. The talented senior averaged 23.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in Maryland's 81-61 win over Harvard on Saturday and 82-74 win over Holy Cross on Sunday in the championship game.
Against the Crimson, the senior from Spencer, N.C. tallied 21 points and 12 rebounds, along with two steals and two assists. Cross recorded a 26-point, five-assist effort in the win over the Crusaders. She hit 13 of 20 field goal attempts and also contributed four rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot.
Melvin earned her second ACC Player of the Week honor after averaging 17.3 points, shooting .629 percent from the field and .889 percent from the free throw line in three wins for the Wolfpack last week.
The senior forward/center from Roseboro, N.C., opened the week with a 13-point, 10 rebound performance on Tuesday in the team's 49-32 win over East Carolina. She also had 25 points, including 23 second half points, and added eight boards, four assists and a steal against the Blue Demons on Sunday.
