COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Student Welfare and Career Development, in conjunction with the Student Empowerment Project (STEP), sponsored a special program "Refocusing our Legacy: 1 Cause, 1 Goal" a panel discussion on the importance of graduation and what resources are available to students on campus. The program, attended by more than 100 Maryland students, took place during the third week of October at The Prince George Room in Stamp on the College Park campus.

The panelist included, former NFL & Terps Defensive Back Domonique Foxworth ('04), President of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA); Darryl Pines, Dean and Nairman Farvardin Professor of Clark School of Engineering; Warren Kelley ('82), Assistant. Vice President UMD Student Affairs; and Kevin Blackistone, UMD Professor and journalist for ESPN's "Around the Horn".

The panelist did an excellent job sharing their personal stories and presenting campus resources available to students. All students participating in the seminar were quick to remark that they were able to drive home the importance of graduating no matter what the circumstances.

For example, a senior track & field athlete, John Davenport was impressed with the panelist and now wants to pursue his MBA. "Undergraduate degrees no longer set you apart," Davenport said.

Jeremiah Johnson, a sophomore on the football team said, "He did an outstanding job of being able identify with each of us in the room .,, I was happy to meet Foxworth for the first time and talk with him briefly about football and life beyond college at the University of Maryland."
