Welcome to the Student Welfare and Career Development at University Of Maryland!

Mission
Student Welfare and Career Development (SWCD) is committed to the total development of University of Maryland student-athletes. Based on the founding principles of the university, SWCD implements programs and activities designed to nurture and develop the mind, body, and soul. SWCD fosters the cultivation of skills that prepare student-athletes for the ultimate competitive challenge: LIFE.

Values
Service - Serving others mentally, emotionally, and physically is paramount to Student Welfare and Development.
Relationships - Developing and maintaining trusting and loyal relationships with student-athletes, coaching staffs, athletic administrators, faculty, community partners, and support services is essential to the success of those served.
Tolerance - Maintaining an inclusive culture that is supportive and respectful of individuals regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, nationality, abilities, and socio-economic status.
Education - Fostering and nurturing an environment where traditional and non-traditional means of education are supported.
Leadership - Cultivating an environment that pursues excellence in oneself and inspiring it in others.

Promote student-athletes' ownership of their academic, athletic, career, personal and community responsibilities.
Meet the changing needs of student-athletes
Promote respect for diversity and inclusion among student-athletes
Assist student-athletes in identifying and applying transferable skills
Enhance partnerships between the NCAA, member institutions and their communities for the purpose of education.
Foster an environment that encourages student-athletes to effectively access campus resources
