About Student Welfare and Career Development
The Student Welfare & career Development (SWCD) program is committed to partnering with the University of Maryland community to ensure intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of campus educational programming. Further, the SWCD is committed to enhancing the quality of the student-athlete experience within the context of higher education by way of providing programming in the areas of LifeSkills, career development, and leadership. Programming will take a holistic approach to developing student-athletes in the following areas:

• Career Development
• Personal Development
• Service
• Leadership

The SWCD program will provide programming to promote a balanced Maryland experience for Terrapin student-athletes within the campus, local, state, and global communities. Proactive and innovative programming will replace reactive intervention and will be continually evaluated by all participating student-athletes with the ultimate goal of making the transition from university to the "real" world as seamless as possible.
Maryland student-athletes will learn the importance of living each day the Maryland way and with a sense of PRIDE where they live their lives being:

The SWCD program will be closely aligned with the mission and vision of the Department of Athletics to EDUCATE, DEVELOP, and SERVE student-athletes through a culture of academic and athletic excellence while producing graduates who are PREPARED to serve as LEADERS in the loacal, state, and global communities, respectively.
