University of Maryland sophomore Alex Lundy finished in 125th place among an elite field of more than 250 runners Monday at the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championships hosted by Indiana State University.
Lundy, a native of Littleton, Colo., covered the 10-kilometer course in 31:04.9 to earn a spot in the middle of the pack. Lundy was the first Terrapin runner to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Nationals in recent memory.
Oregon senior Galen Rupp earned the individual victory in 29:03.2 and led the Ducks to the men's team championship. He placed ahead of Liberty sophomore Samuel Chelanga, who was second in 29:08.0.
The Ducks placed three runners in the top eight to finish with 93 points. Iona was second with 147, with Stanford in third at 227. Wisconsin (229), Auburn (264), Northern Arizona (281), Portland (293), Oklahoma State (305), BYU (310) and Georgetown (319) rounded out the top 10.
Virginia was 14th as a team to finish as the top men's squad from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Washington won the women's team title, with four runners placing among the top 20. The Huskies finished with 79 points to best Oregon, with 131, and Florida State at 163.
ACC individual champ Susan Kuijken of Florida State placed second overall in the 6K women's race in 19:35. She was behind only Texas Tech senior Sally Kipyego, who ran 19:29 to win the individual title.
West Virginia (198), Princeton (220), Villanova (248), Texas Tech (272), Stanford (299), Georgetown (305) and Illinois (318) finished in the top 10 on the women's side.
