No. 12 Terps Travel to New York for Northeast Duals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 12 Maryland wrestling team (3-0) hits the road this weekend for its second set of dual meets for the Northeast Duals on Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y. The Terps will face Bucknell at 11:15 a.m., Northern Iowa at 1:40 p.m., and No. 21 Central Michigan at 3:30 p.m.
Two weeks ago, Maryland finished second at the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational behind No. 11 Oklahoma after tallying 174.5 points, a 73-point improvement from the year before. Eleven wrestlers placed for the Terps and two wrestlers won their weight-class championship including redshirt sophomore Christian Boley at 197 pounds and junior Josh Asper at 165 pounds. Asper earned co-Most Outstanding Wrestler honors for the performance.
Maryland's projected lineup for the weekend is similar to the one used at the Terrapin Duals. At 125 pounds, sophomore Shane Gentry, who finished second at Brockport, is 5-1 and 2-0 in dual meets. Sophomore Jenkins Monzey may also see action.
Freshman Geoffrey Alexander finished third at 133 pounds at Brockport and is 7-1. At 141 pounds, freshman Lou Mascola should see most of the action, but sophomore Frank Goodwin may make his season debut for the Terps.
Asper, ranked second at 165, will wrestle in all three matches. No. 17 redshirt sophomore Jimmy Sheptock will be the primary wrestler at 174 pounds after finishing second at Brockport. But senior Corey Peltier will be available.
Redshirt sophomore Ty Snook will wrestle against all three opponents at 184 pounds. No. 20 redshirt sophomore Christian Boley is undefeated on the season (6-0) and will see all of the action at 197 pounds.
Maryland went 2-1at last year's Northeast Duals. The Terps defeated Northern Iowa and Pennsylvania, but fell to Missouri.
Maryland will also send several wrestlers to the Mat Town Open in Lockhaven, Pa., on Saturday.
The Bison are 0-1 on the season after losing to No. 24 Nebraska on Nov. 10 and finished third at the Navy Classic last weekend.
Senior John Regan is 5-0 after capturing the 157-pound title at the Navy Classic. Freshman Austin Miller lost a tight 3-2 decision in the 125-pound championship bout at the Navy Classic to No. 20 Shane Young of West Virginia.
The Chippewas are 2-0 with victories over Tennessee-Chattanooga and No. 25 Stanford.
Central Michigan features three wrestler ranked by InterMat. No. 20 Donnie Corby is 2-0 at 157 pounds. Ben Bennett is ranked ninth at 184 pounds and Peter Sturgeon is ranked 16th at 285 pounds. The trio is a combined 18-2.
For the Panthers, they will be participating in their first dual meets of the season this weekend. Northern Iowa has two wrestlers ranked by InterMat. David Bonin is ranked 19th at 157 pounds and Ryan Loder is ranked seventh at 184 pounds.
Loder is 8-0 this season and won the individual championships at the Harold Nicholas Open and the Cobber Open.
Bonin is 8-1 and won the title at the Harold Nicholas Open and was the runner up at the Cobber Open.
