Terrapin Duals Set For Sunday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team begins its 2012-13 season on Sunday, Nov. 4 with the annual Terrapin Duals held on Comcast Center's main floor.
The Terps play host to Johns Hopkins and West Virginia. The action begins with the Blue Jays and Mountaineers at 11 a.m., followed by Maryland and Johns Hopkins at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon concludes with the Terps and Mountaineers at 2 p.m.
Sunday's match schedule has been changed. Note the adjustments below.

Comcast Center Parking Information
Lots 4b, 9b and Terrapin Trail Garage are adjacent to Comcast Center. Fans should park within one of those lots free of charge.
Next weekend, the Terps head to Brockport, N.Y., for the annual Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic. The tournament will take place on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Scouting The Terps
The Terps enter the 2012-13 season with nine starters returning from a team that sent seven wrestlers to the 2012 NCAA Championships and won its second consecutive ACC title in March.
The Terps have four wrestlers featured in the InterMat preseason rankings led by two-time All-American Josh Asper. Asper begins the season ranked fourth at 174 pounds.
Geoffrey Alexander, fresh off his first NCAA berth as a freshman in 2012, begins the season ranked 18th at 133.
Scouting The Blue Jays
The Blue Jays have four wrestlers among the top 10 in the D3wrestle.com preseason rankings.
Paul Bewak is ranked fourth at 125. Bewak posted a 30-9 record as a freshman last season en route to earning All-America honors at the NCAA Championships.
At 197, Reid Mosquera is No. 5 in the preseason rankings. Mosquera earned All-America honors last season with an eighth-place finish at the NCAAs and posted a 16-5 record a year ago.
Henry Stauber begins the season ranked eighth after winning the Centennial Conference title at 149.
At 141, Paul Marcello checks in at No. 9. Marcello is the only three-time Centennial champion and three-time NCAA qualifier in school history.

Scouting The Mountaineers
West Virginia returns five wrestlers from last year's lineup that placed third at the EWL Championships. Shane Young, Nathan Pennesi, Brutus Scheffel, Dominic Prezzia and Lance Bryson will provide the Mountaineers with match experience.
Pennesi earned a trip to the NCAA Championships and led the Mountaineers in dual points for, nearfall points, technical falls and major decisions last season. Pennesi starts the season ranked 19th at 141.
At 184, Bryson completed last season with a 25-16 record, including four wins over ranked opponents and his first-ever trip to the NCAA Championships. He enters the season ranked 20th.

Schedule The Best
Maryland's 2012-13 schedule features several of the nation's elite. The Terps face 12 teams that were among the top 30 at the NCAA Championships including two top-10 programs in Ohio State and Illinois.
The Terps face No. 6 Illinois on Nov. 24 at the Northeast Duals and No. 5 Ohio State on Dec. 16 at Madison Square Garden.
In addition, Maryland takes on No. 9 Nebraska, No. 12 Virginia Tech, No. 16 Virginia, No. 18 Pittsburgh, and potentially faces No. 7 Missouri and/or No. 19 Wyoming at the NWCA National Duals.
Josh Asper has been selected to compete at the 2012 NWCA All-Star Classic on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Bender Arena on the campus of American University. For Asper, it is his third appearance at the event, which is a Maryland wrestling record.
Asper will make his debut at 174 pounds against two-time All-American Jordan Blanton of Illinois. Blanton is ranked second by InterMat.
Movin' On Up
During the offseason, several wrestlers made the move to a higher weight class.
Ben Dorsay, who started for the Terps last season at 149, makes the jump to 157 this season. Dorsay is expected to redshirt this year.
After placing sixth at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season in 2012, Josh Asper climbs to 174. Asper has compiled a record of 63-9 over the past two seasons.
At 184, Jimmy Sheptock slides up from 174 where he went 27-6 last season en route to his first ACC Championship.
In The Hunt
The Terps placed seven wrestlers in the finals of last season's ACC Championships. Six of the seven wrestlers return for Maryland including three conference champions.
Grapple at the Garden
The Terps schedule includes a trip to Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Dec. 16. It is the first-ever collegiate wrestling event to be held at the world famous arena.
Maryland will take on two Big Ten powerhouses in No. 5 Ohio State and No. 9 Nebraska.
