Krom, Letts Have Great Showings At FILA World Team Trials

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Alex Krom and sophomore Mike Letts both had solid showings at the 2008 FILA Junior & University World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. Krom finished third in the 145.5 pound university division and Letts placed second in the 185 pound weight class.

Both wrestlers competed in Colorado Springs, Colorado from May 23-24 and wrestled in the freestyle division of their respective tournaments.

Krom was named Maryland's Redshirt of the Year after winning titles at the Buffalo Open and Edinboro Open at 141 pounds. He also earned a second-place finish at the Mat Town Open and a third place finish at the Kent State Open. Krom capped off his redshirt season by placing third at the Freestyle University Nationals to earn All-America status at 145.5 pounds.

Letts won the ACC Championship at 174 pounds for the second straight season for the Terps and is now a perfect 9-0 in conference duals in his career. He finished the 2007-08 season with a 22-6 record with a team-leading nine major decisions. He was ranked in the top 10 all season and reached as high as No. 7 in the nation.
