Terps Take Second at Brockport

Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational Final Results BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Four Maryland wrestlers won individual titles Saturday as the 15th-ranked Maryland wrestling team placed second at the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational. Oklahoma won the event for the 14th consecutive time with 155.5 points. Army rounded out the top three with 110 points. Five Terps reached the championship round Saturday with No. 3 Josh Asper (174), No. 10 Christian Boley (197), Shane Gentry (125) and No. 10 Jimmy Sheptock (184) all claiming titles. Lou Mascola (149) racked up three pins for the highest aggregate time at the tournament (4:49). Gentry claimed Maryland's first title of the day with a 6-2 decision over David Terao of American. The junior reached the final with pins of Buffalo's Mike Soria and Brockport's Tyler Marlow in the first and second rounds, respectively. In his semifinal matchup with Oklahoma's Kyle Garcia, Gentry earned a 2-0 decision. At 133, No. 16 Geoffrey Alexander pinned Esteban Gomez-Rivera of American and defeated Army's Jordan Thome before falling to No. 20 Cody Brewer of Oklahoma. Mascola acquitted himself well in his second round matchup against ninth-ranked Nick Lester of Oklahoma. Mascola lost a 3-0 decision to the eventual champion. In the wrestleback, Mascola went 4-0 with three pins to take third place. Mascola pinned Oklahoma's Chase Gordon in the third-place match. Asper cruised through the 174 bracket. The Parkton, Md., native pinned Jeff Palmeri of Buffalo in his opening bout and followed it with a 17-4 major decision over Ryan Tompkins of Army. In the final, Asper pinned American's Keithen Cast at the 3:49 mark.
At 184, Sheptock racked up bonus points on his way to the championship. The junior recorded a fall, tech fall and major decision to reach the championship round. In the final, Sheptock dispatched of Army's Collin Wittmeyer by a score of 15-6. In the same bracket, Tony Gardner responded from an early round defeat to claim fourth with three victories in the wrestleback. Boley used three wins by decision to claim his second straight Brockport title. In the final, Boley knocked off Bryce Barnes of Army. Final Team Standings 1.
