Krom, Letts Have Great Showings At FILA World Team Trials

Junior Alex Krom and sophomore Mike Letts both had solid showings at the 2008 FILA Junior & University World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. Krom finished third in the 145.5 pound university division and Letts placed second in the 185 pound weight class.

Wrestling Golf Outing Set For June 27

The University of Maryland wrestling program's golf outing has been slated for Friday, June 27, at the Cross Creek Golf Club in Beltsville. Those wishing to participate can download the application and return it to the wrestling office. Proceeds for the tournament help support the wrestling program.

Sophomore Hudson Taylor was named the 2008 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for wrestling, announced May 28 by commissioner John Swofford. Taylor, an interactive performance arts major, was an All-American at 197 pounds and was the 2008 ACC Wrestler of the Year.

McCoy Named New Wrestling Head Coach

Junior Josh Haines and sophomore Hudson Taylor were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Wrestling Team. Haines finished the season with a 16-10 record at 184 pounds while Taylor finished third at the NCAA Championships to become Maryland's first wrestling All-American since 1997.

Kerry McCoy Named Maryland Wrestling Head Coach

Director of athletics Deborah A. Yow announced May 12 that Kerry McCoy has been named the head coach for the University of Maryland wrestling program. In three seasons as head coach at Stanford, McCoy transformed the Cardinal into a national contender after inheriting a team that went 6-8-1 in 2004-05.

The Maryland wrestling team handed out its awards for the 2007-08 season at the annual awards picnic at Epping Forest Club House in Annapolis on May 3. University of Maryland head wrestling coach Pat Santoro has accepted the head coaching position at Lehigh University. Santoro was the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Terrapins to their first conference title since 1973. He posted a 48-41-1 record in five seasons at Maryland, including a 33-9 mark the last two years.
