Mar. 20, 1997 The "Guzzler" Wins At NCAAs; Four Terps Fall ShortCEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- At the first round of the NCAA Wrestling Championships, James "The Guzzler" Guzzio improved his record to 36-0 by defeating Ed Hockenberry of Bloomsburg University, 14-3. Guzzio will wrestle Troy Marr of the University of Minnesota this evening in the second round of the 134 lb. bracket. Junior Shane Mack lost in his first round match of the 142 lb. bracket to Brendan Buckley of Fresno State University, by a score of 11-7. Mack will face the winner of the Chris Elliot (Slippery Rock) / Nick Maravich (Duquesne) match tonight in the consolation bracket. Junior Jeff Whalen lost his first round match of the 150 lb. Bracket to Chad Kraft of the University of Minnesota, 12-2. He will face Bart Murphy of the University of Pennsylvania in the fist round of the consolation bracket tonight. Senior 158-pounder Arash Alizadeh was pinned by Joe Williams of the University of Iowa 2:35 into the match. He will face Andy Varner of Cal State- Bakersfield tonight in the consolation bracket. Senior 167-pounder Damon Stephens lost his first round match to Brad Alderman of Stanford University by a score of 9-1. He will be wrestling against Brad Alderman from the University of Wyoming tonight in the consolation bracket. The tournament is taking place at the UNI-Dome on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa.
