Feb. 21, 1997 Maryland Wrestling Improves to 10-3COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team scored their most points in any match of the 1996-97 season by defeating Howard at Cole Field House tonight, 41-7. The Terps scored two pinfalls and two major decisions during the match. Tonight was also "Senior Night," in which the Terps honored their seven seniors wrestling their last home match at Cole Field House. James "The Guzzler" Guzzio (Sr; New Haven, CT) improved his record to 32-0, remaining the only undefeated wrestler in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Guzzler is currently ranked eighth in the nation by Amatuer Wrestling News and holds a better record than any of the seven wrestlers ranked ahead of him. Other winners for the Terps included Scott Herfel (So; Holbrook, NY); Shane Mack (Jr; Ithaca, NY); Marty Margolis (Sr; Port Tobacco, MD); Arash Alizadeh (Sr; Herndon, VA); Damon Stephens (Sr; Upper Marlboro, MD); Brian Layman (Sr; Millersville, MD), and Dave Vernier (Sr; Gaithersburg, MD).
