Season Outlook

The Terps are looking forward to the 1996-97 season with quiet optimism with ten lettermen from the past two seasons returning.

Leading the Terps will be Co-Captains and Seniors James Guzzio and Brian Layman. James Guzzio was the ACC Champion co-outstanding wrestler in the conference last season. In addition to the two captains, there are five experienced seniors representing the Terps. The team is coming off an 8-4 record which include a strong third place finish at the ACC Tournament. Two of the Terps wrestlers are returning NCAA qualifiers. They are James Guzzio at 134 lbs. and Shane Mack at 142 lbs. Both wrestlers scored points at the NCAA Tournament in Minnesota. Others who will play crucial roles in the quest for the ACC team tile will include Marty Margolis, Jeff Whalen, Arash Alizadeh, Chris Devito, Craig Garrison, and Dave Vernier.

New freshmen and transfers will challenge veterans for respective weight classes.

A tough schedule and challenge for the ACC title should make for an interesting wrestling year.
