Freshman David Kwon.

Nov. 29, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After his streak of wins at the St. Louis Gateway National Championships, the Gator Bowl, and the Peach State Classic, freshman David Kwon joined the Maryland men's team only to yield the same success. In the fall season, he picked up his first win as a Terrapin against Navy at the Navy Invitational. Kwon joins the Terps as a top five recruit with one of the best backhands in the country. He discusses his teammates and what it means to be part of Maryland.

What was the most appealing factor that brought you to Maryland?
The University is a greatly recognized program in the nation and I was attracted to the direction that the tennis program was heading.

What are your goals for yourself in 2007?
My goals the upcoming season are to continually improve and hopefully move up in the lineup. I want to maintain a solid performance.

What do you expect from yourself and your team for this season?
I expect the team to be a dark horse within the ACC. I believe that this year Maryland will move up in the rankings and prove to be a more competitive team. I hope to shock a lot of people.

What has been the biggest adjustment to the level of competition?
The biggest adjustment that I have had to make was that there are a lot of international players in the college arena. I usually knew most of the national players, but playing the international players are more difficult because I am not aware of how they play the game.

How would you describe your playing style?
My style of playing is just to be an all-around player in every way that I can.
