Terps Men's Tennis to Open Fall Season This Weekend
Sept. 11, 2008
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's tennis team will open the 2008 fall season Friday when it begins play in the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. Play continues through the weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy Tennis Courts, as well as inside the Tose Family Tennis Center. There is no team scoring, but other schools expected to send competitors include Arkansas, Oklahoma and Richmond. This is the first of five fall tournaments for the Terps, who return six players from last season, highlighted by All-Americans Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt. Orban posted an impressive 17 wins in singles play while Fetbroyt recorded a career high 20 wins in doubles play. Also returning are senior Nickolai Nielson, juniors Alex Aksanov and David Kwon, and sophomore Roshan Potarazu. Nielson led the team with 19 victories in singles play including winning his final four matches facing difficult ACC opponents. Freshmen Arman Moussavi, Jonathan Ribaste and Mathias Sarrazin, along with Graham Knowlton, a sophomore transfer from Bradley University, look to help the Terps build on last year's 10-win campaign. The Terps are guided by head coach Jim Laitta in his 19th season with the University of Maryland tennis program.
