Terps Men's and Women's Tennis Open ACC Tournament Play Thursday

    GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Maryland men's and women's tennis teams open ACC tournament play this week in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

    The women's team, which is seeded 12th, takes on fifth-seeded North Carolina at 9 a.m. Thursday with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals to play No. 4 seed Clemson at 9 a.m. Friday.

    The men's team, which is seeded 10th, plays the No. 7 seed, Miami, at noon Thursday. The winner of that match will meet second-seeded North Carolina at noon Friday in the quarterfinals.

    The Terrapin men (10-10, 2-9) enter the week ranked No. 58 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Hurricanes are currently ranked No. 21 in the country.

    The Maryland men's team has been led this season by freshman Amit Inbar, sophomore David Kwon and junior Nickolai Nielsen, who each has posted more than 10 dual singles match wins.

    Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt are also the No. 8-ranked doubles duo in the nation.

    The youthful Maryland women's team (3-17, 0-11), which has seven freshmen and sophomores among its eight players, have been buoyed by the play of junior Michal Amir, who is ranked No. 121 in the nation in singles.

    Play in the ACC tournament continues through Sunday. Fans can check out the action on ACC Select. Coverage will be made available on-demand by 9 p.m. each day of the tournament.
